The initial situation

The KEBA Group is a multiple award-winning, internationally active company group specialized in industrial, process and energy automation. At its location in Linz, KEBA produces, among other things, optimized and matched charging hardware and software for e-cars and plug-in hybrids. As of October 2022, KEBA has sold over half a million wall boxes.

Since 2015, KEBA has entertained a very productive partnership with Netural, resulting in the keba.com website and the KEBA "evo" banking automation app. Now, the next challenge was to develop an e-mobility app that meets highest quality standards, under a tight project schedule dictated by the strong growth of the electric vehicle market.

The task

The creation of an app with which users can manage their KEBA wall boxes, with a capacity to process at least one million units. The main challenges in this project were posed by the high data volume and the corresponding need for high processing speed: The rapidly increasing number of electric vehicle users and charging infrastructures makes data management extremely demanding.

The solution

This first app to see the light of the KEBA energy automation world is strictly high-performance, with groundbreaking Big Data handling capabilities. Beyond that, the development process focused on perfect usability and convincing overall user experience. The user interface builds on the KEBA corporate design, extending it elegantly into the digital future. Owners of KEBA wall boxes can now use their mobile devices to control charging with utmost convenience, starting and stopping charging, analyzing previous charging sessions, configuring their wall boxes and performing software updates. In an ongoing process, more smart features are added to the app to provide users and charging infrastructure operators with an easy-to-use, energy-efficient charging experience.

The success

The numbers prove that the KEBA e-mobility app works, and that users are pleased: The first 2500 downloads occurred Immediately after the go live, , and numbers have risen quickly and steadily ever since.

Meanwhile, the collaboration between KEBA and Netural continues apace: A new cloud solution gives users access to their charging station from anywhere, both by app and a newly developed portal. This portal offers great benefits to electric car drivers and box installers, but beyond that is also enables commercial operators to manage, monitor and control charging parks, which is good news for large and small companies, property managers, restaurants and hotels.
